Why my business does not show up on Google (and how to fix it) 2026
If you search for your business on Google and it does not appear, here are the most common causes and how to fix them step by step: profile, website, reviews and patience.
It is one of the most common frustrations: you search for your own business on Google and it does not appear anywhere, or it shows far down while competitors are at the top. The good news is that it almost always has a fix, and often a free one. Let us go through the causes in order, from most common to least, so you can spot yours.
1. You have no Google Business Profile (or it is incomplete)
For local businesses, the first thing Google shows is not websites, it is the map with business profiles. If you have no Google Business Profile, or it is half done, it is nearly impossible to appear when someone searches for your type of business nearby. Creating it is free: name, address, phone, hours, the correct category and photos. It is step one and the one with the biggest impact.
2. You have no website, or Google does not know it
Without your own site, you lack the base Google uses to understand who you are and what you offer. And if you have a site but it is new, Google may not have indexed it yet (discovered and stored). To speed that up you submit a sitemap from Google Search Console and request indexing of the main pages. Without this, your site exists but Google does not show it.
3. Your site does not clearly say what you do or where you are
Google needs to understand your business in words. If your site does not mention your service and your area (for example, hairdresser in La Orotava, or restaurant in Puerto de la Cruz), it struggles to know which searches to show you for. The page title, the text and the contact details should make clear what you do and where.
4. You are new: authority and time are missing
Even doing everything right, ranking high is not instant. Google takes weeks or months to trust a new business, especially with competition. It is normal to start on page 2 (positions 11 to 20), where almost nobody clicks, and climb over time. It is not broken: it is young.
5. You are missing reviews
Reviews on your Google profile are one of the strongest signals for the local map. A business with 20 good reviews shows ahead of one with zero, even if the second is just as good. Asking happy customers for reviews is one of the most profitable things you can do, and it is free.
6. Inconsistent data around the internet
If your name, address or phone appear differently on your site, your profile, your Instagram or old directories, Google gets confused and trusts you less. Your name, address and phone should be identical everywhere.
How to fix it, in order
- Create or complete your Google Business Profile with the right category, hours and photos.
- Have your own site that clearly states what you do and in which area.
- Connect the site to Google Search Console, submit the sitemap and request indexing.
- Get reviews from happy customers, gradually and naturally.
- Make sure name, address and phone are the same everywhere.
- Give it time: check every few weeks how you are progressing.

Chat on WhatsAppFrequently asked questions
How long until my business shows on Google?
The Google profile can start showing within days. Ranking the website for competitive searches usually takes weeks or months; it is normal to start on page 2 and climb.
Can I appear on Google for free?
Yes. The Google Business Profile is free and has the biggest impact for a local business. The website helps reinforce it.
I have a site but it does not appear, why?
Usually because Google has not indexed it yet, or because it does not clearly state your service and area. Fix it by submitting the sitemap, requesting indexing and improving the text.
Do reviews really help?
A lot. They are among the strongest signals for the local map. A business with good reviews shows ahead of one without.
What do I do first if I do not appear?
Start with a complete Google Business Profile, then a clear website connected to Search Console, and gather reviews at the same time. That order is the most effective.
